Music Submissions

For many of you who have submitted in the past this will be a rehash of old material. Nothing has really changed in 10 years as far as submitting music goes. Many have said KB is by far the easiest to send music too, and we thank you for that.

Lets start with the basics.

1. All music is to be submitted to kbradiomusic@outlook.com Anything received in other mailboxes is just deleted. I'm sorry if that sounds rude.

2. Please include in your email a copy of the song you are submitting. It must be an actual attachment or via dropbox, google drive or like that. Youtube links, Soundcloud etc are not processed. Please don't say listen and let us know and we will send it to you. That just duplicates the work load and adds extra emails.

3. We would love if you included some form of bio. Also include social media links. We are trying to build a database of this info. If you have sent it all before, than no it's not needed every time. Changes or updates are appreciated.

4. If you have a date you prefer we start playing your track please include it. Otherwise we will assume its playable upon receipt.

5. I like to ask if you are new to the KB family if you can send a 2nd song with it. If for some reason we cant play your preferred choice than we can consider the other option.

6. MP3 WAV etc. It doesn't matter to us.

What we don't want. Lol its a short list

1. Feel free to share your albums with us but don't ask us to pick a track out of 10 songs. We don't have the time.

2. Please please please... say hello. If your email is nothing but an email attachment of your song and not even a simple "hi" or anything written it will go in the GARBAGE! You get what you give. If you cant take 10 seconds to write even a simple hello I don't have 10 seconds for your song.

3. The final item is if possible don't send songs in folders that are time sensitive. We do our best to get to emails fairly swiftly, however there can be delays. You can assume with more than 1000 songs a month coming in, if you send an email today it likely won't be opened today. If you have a priority email, as in you have a new release and want us to debut it, send the email, but dm myself or Lynne to let us know so we can pull that email out.

   
   

We get 1000 plus songs each month to review. I have streamlined the heck out of the process and it still takes on average 7 minutes per email to process. We get behind some times. If the link expires in 7 days don't bother sending it. You are wasting your own time. Sorry, again not trying to be rude, but we probably wasted an hour for each weeks new music, chasing dead or expired links.

Another to remember is we are not indie stations. We play approximately 10% of the music submitted. I used to reply to everyone even for songs we weren't playing and I still make an effort to do that, but sometimes I miss a few for songs not being added due to time and workload.

The final items are we don't play cover songs. Don't debate me on this, my stations you lose. I say that because I have a file of emails from promoters and artists telling me how wrong i am about this. Since we play a mix of mainstream and indie getting an indie cover just wont work for my programming. I'm sorry but often those songs are already in rotation by the original artists. Before you say i heard you play Manfred Manns Blinded by the Light and everyone knows its a Springsteen song. Yes and both were mainstream. Again don't debate me please. As i say to them, that want to debate, I don't tell you how to promote don't tell me how to program my stations.

If you remix your song and send it in, if we have played it before we won't add this new version. LET ME BE CLEAR This is not cleaning up or remastering this is here is song A and now here is song A the funky mix, and the tuna mix, and the disco mix.

I don't ever want to sound arrogant but i program my stations the way i was trained and schooled in radio going back 40 years now. My initial podcasts garnered 40,000 listeners in 8 months and after 10 years i think my record speaks for itself. I don't expect everyone to like me and that's fine. Some people just don't like honesty, and that's what you get from me.

I have written a blog about submissions from writers, but let me give the short version here. KB Radio is not a platform for song writers to showcase their work. It is a broadcasting station to promote musicians and there music. For a more detailed explanation check out the other blog.
